Mania Angustia, Hippolyte Thillard, 2021
Faced with a complex world that exposes our bodies to many stress factors, how do we find the path to contemplation and engagement?
In this video installation, the artist expresses how the body translates the psychic states of an individual when subjected to the pressure of everyday life. At that moment, the body takes over the mind and expresses itself through a quantity of physical reactions that it does not fully control. It is these gestures of pain and pleasure that the artist comes to stage to express this desire for liberation.
The sound is emitted at intervals of 7 seconds. A stuttering friend of Hippolyte Thillard recites a poem, while in the background, we hear the recording of the artist’s breathing and heart beating accelerating as the video progresses. In the installation, mirrors are placed under three television sets, giving the impression of six screens in a dark room.
